Pláticas

Parciantes del Acequia de los Salazares,

We the comisionados who represent the Acequia de los Salazares would like to extend our hand to the greater community in our continuing goal to protect and promote the use of our Acequia. We would like to take this opportunity to express the need for our serviced communities to participate in a documentation of our shared knowledge and customs that relate directly with your Acequia use. Through this letter, the comisión wishes to acknowledge the Oral History project entitled “Pláticas sobre el uso del acequia y la tierra” (Dialogues concerning the uses of the Acequia and the Land) or in short “Pláticas/Dialogues” directed by our acequia’s Intern, David F. García.

The purpose of this project is to conduct audio-recorded interviews of interested Acequia parciantes as a means to document our community’s history and its continuing use of land and water. In addition, it is our goal to share the cultural knowledge of agricultural and small farming practices to our younger generations. It is our hope that through projects such as these the Acequia de los Salazares in turn will help farmers and ranchers on our Acequia to continue and protect the practices, which have been maintained for generations.

In closing, it is important that we share with one another the knowledge and information that can keep our Acequia filled with water for future generations. It with this in mind that that the Acequia de los Salazares requests you volunteer to be interviewed. Finally, if you have any further questions about this project or have someone in mind who would like to be interviewed or would like to help conduct interviews please contact the project facilitator David F. García at 505-753-8402. Thank you for your consideration in this matter.
